"something new" (day one)

so maybe i should change the "something new" to

"only if i am feeling adventurous" day...

but on the bright side,

i arranged my ginormous lilies and they make me smile.

which was necessary after watching 2 full episodes of extreme home makeover.
hormones are fun.

good thing cc still squealed at how great i was for cutting potatoes for him.
gotta love that.

operation domestication - part two

now that i am home,
and i have my very own kitchen,

i have had time to bond with little red

who looks pretty cute in my little kitchen

but something was missing...

so with my drawer full of measuring cups,
(i thought we took back most of the extra ones!!)

the first batch of cookies were made.

and now i have canisters with food pregos eat.

then it was time to face some of the new appliances we haven't used.

peg taught me how to use my wok,

and then we tried out the pizza stone...

and after i spent some time with cousin emily-
who is crazy domestic
and sent me on my way with homemade jam
...right before she started her fresh bread,

i decided it was time to get organized her way.

this is going to be my food plan calendar:

every day is a new theme of food product
and they are kind of self-explanatory:
(but i will for you, cause i don't know how to shut up)

pasta = italian
something new = one of those things i have always wanted to try...
rice = asian
beans = mexican
date nite = not makin dinner-nu uh.
pizza = homemade naughtiness of many kinds
healthy/easy = some home-cooked sunday-style goodness

and i hope to fit in as many of my new/unused appliances as i can
and get as many new-ish recipes too...

of course i will share them with you if they are good ones.

operation domestication: part one

just over a week ago,

we left 118 degrees for 70 degrees

before the largest truck ever showed up (about 4 days after we arrived),
we lived like this:

we quickly filled up the space...

and after opening box after box of unused wedding gift,
and finally spent the last of the target card,

we made this space a bit more like home:

Why IKEA is brilliant:

So... aside from being a very contemporary, chic, and stylin place to snag simple decor ideas, this monstrosity of a building that contains all that brain power is actually quite business genius.

• They get you there because it is unavoidable... too large to walk on by. No really... see how unsafe these huge buildings are for the highways...
• You can't argue with how cheap it all is-
• You know where it goes in your house- for heavens sake- they show you!
• And, the place comes complete with a cafe that actually produces some quality food-type products for very inexpensive.

The old man who thought that one up so long ago is laughing his way to the Swedish bank daily and carefully avoiding his taxes... again... brilliant.

So, after the last IKEA trip... my apartment is finally finished!!
(with the exception of the table cloth I have yet to sew.. yes, that is the sound of me... becoming my mother...)

Calling all CRAFTIES!

So- this is my girlfriend. We have the same name, only hers has a silent "H" in it. We go out all the time, to the movies mostly, and Red Robin cause she really only eats chicken and fries. We have been basically dating for a long while and I would say it is going
pretty well... I mean we are living together!

A pastime of ours: sitting in the middle of the street for no good reason.


Now for the sad news: This cute crafty best friend of mine is MOVING! (In your best Michelle Tanner voice): And I am not very happy about this!!!

She is the main decorator of the place that we can't paint so she has adorned the walls using brilliance, paper, and ribbon.

So my problem now is that the decor baton has been passed to yours truly and I think you have better ideas then I. So think hard- you have a room of white walls, and can't paint them... your couches are green with brown pillows...the kitchen can be whatever you want it to be...GO!
